“BUILDING ON THE ROCK TOGETHER”. . .is the theme chosen for the 2010-11 school year, based on Ephesians 2:22. Throughout the year, we will be stressing this theme in all our established goals, programs, and activities. Help us publicize our theme; but above all, plan to participate with us as we strive to be God’s people who are daily “Building on the Rock Together” for the Lord.
COMMUNICATION IS KEY. . .You’ve heard it said, “Good communication is the key to any successful venture”. That’s so true for the success of our school program at Christ Lutheran, too! To promote positive and timely communication with our school families, CLS has adopted the FastDirect Communication system for our all our school information. We strongly encourage all CLS families to set up a Parent Portal account (it’s simple to do—directions are available at the school office) allowing you access to your child’s school information, including: newsletters, teacher bulletin boards, assignments, grades, attendance, lunch account information, secure messaging, and much more!
MEDICATION AUTHORIZATION. . .In order for CLS personnel to administer medication, both prescription and over-the-counter, to students during the school day, we must have permission to do so from both the child’s parent and physician. Copies of the Medication Authorization Form will be distributed at the Parent Orientation Meetings, and additional copies of the form will be included in the Parent-Student Handbook for your use (additional forms are available at the school office) throughout the school year. Remember, both the physician’s and parent’s signatures will be required on a single permission form.
SPORTS PHYSICAL. . .We highly encourage all students planning to participate in our interscholastic sports program to receive a sports physical prior to the first day of practices. Physical forms are available at the school office or at Orientation Night on August 5 & 10. Be sure to make your appointments today.
ARE YOU HUNGRY?…As in previous years, CLS students will eat their lunches in the basement cafeteria during the lunch hour. We’re pleased once again to offer well-balanced, nutritious hot lunches each day to all students, Kindergarten thru 8th grade, prepared in our CLS kitchen for only $2.25 a meal. A copy of the 2010-11 Hot Lunch Program procedures will be distributed at the Orientation Meetings in August. Please read them over carefully, taking note of pricing and purchase procedure. Again this year, daily lunch participation and payments will be tracked through FastDirect. After your initial payment, you can pay on a weekly basis and money will be credited to your FastDirect account. Purchases will be debited on a weekly basis. The August menu will be sent home on the first day of school. Future menus will be published on FastDirect and in the Mustang Messenger newsletter. The first hot lunch day is Wednesday, August 18th.
FREE/REDUCED LUNCH APPS…for the 2010-11 school year will be available for families at the Orientation Meetings in August. We encourage all families to complete and return the application for determination of eligibility. Please be assured—the information you provide on the application is held in strict confidence. Applications should be returned to the school office by August 18th if possible.
SCHOLARSHIP APPS. . .Thanks in large part to the success of last spring’s FIRE (Faithfully Investing in Religious Education) event sponsored by ACLEA, funds are available once again to assist families with the financial obligation of registration fees. Those who desire assistance are asked to complete the Free/Reduced Lunch application along with the additional “Sharing Information with Other Programs” form that is part of the application packet. All scholarship applications should be returned to Mr. House on or before Opening Day on August 18th; award determination will be made shortly thereafter. Any questions, contact Mr. House.
KEEPING ‘EM SAFE…Once again this year, school security will receive high priority at CLS. To help insure the safety and protection of our students, faculty, and staff, all exterior doors of the school building will be locked during the school day. Only the west foyer doors will remain unlocked throughout the day. Access to the school (office, classrooms, and gym) will be available through the main (north) doors.
The school building officially opens for students at 8:15 AM and closed for the day at 3:45 PM.
Prior to 8:15 AM, students can enter the building through the west foyer entrance, and should report directly to “Zero Hour” Extended Care or the area designated in advance by their teacher.
During the school day (8:30 AM to 3:30 PM), parents visiting the campus or volunteering for various school programs should check in at the school office and make their presence known to the staff.
At dismissal (3:30-3:45 PM), students will exit the building through the west foyer doors. Parents may park in the west lot and call for their students in the foyer or enter the “Pick-up Line” where their students will be escorted to their vehicle. Details about this dismissal procedure will be explained at the Parent Orientation Meetings.
After 3:45 PM, classrooms are not accessible to students. All homework assignments for absentees can be picked up outside the school office. Thanks for your cooperation as we work together to keep our kids safe!
